The National Democratic Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization working to support and strengthen democratic institutions worldwide through citizen participation, openness and accountability in government.

NDI opened an office in Baku in 1995 and has since worked to foster a more open and pluralistic political environment through programming that focuses on civil society development, political party strengthening, and electoral reform and election monitoring.
