Vice President Joe Biden will deliver remarks at NDI's annual Democracy Award Dinner, which will be held next Tuesday in Washington.

Entitled "From Protest to Politics: Honoring Ukraine’s New Democrats," the dinner will recognize the accomplishments of three young Ukrainian activists – Hanna Hopko, Serhiy Leshchenko and Oleksandr Solontay – who took part in the Euromaidan demonstrations and have since entered into politics in an effort to advance democracy in their country.

NDI's democracy award recognizes individuals and organizations from around the world that have made a lasting impact on democracy and human rights through their courage, leadership and dedication to democratic ideals.

Hopko helped to launch the Reanimation Package of Reforms, an innovative effort to promote economic and political development. Leshchenko is an investigative journalist and deputy editor-in-chief of Ukrainska Pravda, and Oleksandr Solontay is a political analyst at Kyiv’s Institute of Political Education. Both Hopko and Leshchenko were elected to parliament on political party lists in October.

With this award, NDI recognizes a new generation of Ukrainians, whose energy and commitment to democracy give hope to the democratic future of their country. Please join NDI Chairman Madeleine Albright and Vice President Biden in honoring those whose commitment and dedication serve as an inspiration to all who struggle for democracy around the world.
