Latifa Maï Moussa Loussahi
Latifa Maï Moussa Loussahi is NDI's resident director in Niger where she leads programs to promote inclusive and transparent electoral processes, strengthen security sector governance, and build accountability between citizens, security forces, and local authorities. Previously, she served as resident deputy director and resident senior program manager and technical expert on issues of gender, human rights, and governance.
Ms. Loussahi brings nearly 25 years of leadership experience in managing democracy and governance programs and building and maintaining professional relationships with politicians, government representatives, civil society activists and religious and traditional leaders in Niger and the sub-region. She has expertise in convening stakeholders across political, religious, gender and ethnic lines to broker political dialogue. She led a USAID-funded national campaign in Niger that culminated in a presidential decree to protect girls’ rights to education.
Prior to joining NDI, Ms. Loussahi served as deputy head of the Danish Representation in Niger where she played a major role in designing and overseeing Denmark’s national development assistance strategy in the areas of good governance, political development, water, sanitation and gender. She also served as head of the Danish Cooperation in Niger where she led the design and implementation of multi-year DANIDA-financed programs promoting good governance, rural development, health and gender, and advised the Nigerien government on the development of national strategies in these areas. She has taken part in Danish and Norwegian election observation missions in Niger.
