Since 2019, NDI Malaysia has collaborated with the Speaker’s Office of the House of Representatives (Dewan Rakyat) on strengthening its institutions, together with building the capacity of parliamentarians through a series of mentorship programs and workshops. One major highlight was the “Akademi Parlimen” workshop, which looked into building capacity of participants on parliamentary procedures, parliamentary questions, special chambers, and more. This programme is aimed at parliamentarians, officers of members of parliament, civil society organizations, and youth. In support of parliamentary reform, NDI Malaysia and the Malaysian Parliament have published several guides and materials to help better understand the rules of the House of Representatives, Special Select Committee Procedures, and more. The publication of animation videos and podcast series also facilitates the topic of parliamentary procedures.
