As an audit of Afghanistan’s runoff presidential election ballots continues, NDI has added preliminary runoff results to its Afghanistan election data website. The data, released last month by Afghanistan’s Independent Election Commission, show preliminary results of the runoff between Abdullah Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani, including turnout information and a comparison of the results of the April 5 first round and June 14 second round results.
This tool is an effort to make Afghanistan election data more accessible and transparent. It allows users to explore the preliminary results in detail, including vote distribution patterns by province and district.
Preliminary Results Map: This map visualizes the preliminary results of the second round voting. The size of the circle represents the number of voters who cast ballots for each candidate. Visitors can examine the performance of each candidate individually.
Results Comparison Map: This map compares the difference in turnout for each candidate between the first and second rounds. The size of the circle represents the amount of increase or decrease in votes for the selected candidate in the second round election.
Turnout Map: This map visualizes voter turnout of total settled population based on 2012-2013 estimates by Afghanistan’s Central Statistics Organization. On the website, you can hover over each district to see more detailed information.
Interactive Results: This dashboard allows users to drill down into preliminary election results data by polling center.
The raw data can be accesssed here.
