For decades, party international organizations have mobilized like-minded political parties from around the world to share knowledge and organize a joint agenda. However, democratically-minded party networks have historically lacked a dedicated international space to collaborate with each other in the defense of democratic institutions globally. In order to answer the rise of authoritarians around the world, party internationals can work together to leverage their powerful party networks to enact and protect new democratic norms.

In recent years, particularly in the wake of COVID, the political and economic environments of the West Bank and Gaza (WBG) have generally deteriorated, exacerbated by continued conflict with Israel, little opportunity for political competition and limited venues for civic activity.

In Malawi, lots of boys are harnessing the wind - the country is full of young people with great ideas. There happens to be a wonderful children’s book about one of them - the famous William Kamkwamba, who, in the midst of drought forcing him out of school, harnessed the wind by building a windmill out of scrap for his village.

Solomon Islands is at the forefront of unprecedented global environmental challenges. Population growth, pressure on natural resources, and governance challenges accelerate the dramatic effects of climate change, affecting local communities in unprecedented ways. Findings from national public opinion research conducted by NDI in 2021 show that Solomon Islanders are increasingly concerned about these aspects and demand more inclusive and effective governance.

Following the Year of Action after the first Summit for Democracy in 2021, NDI once again played a central role throughout the second Summit, held from March 28-30. This year’s Summit was a global event co-hosted with Costa Rica, The Netherlands, South Korea, Zambia, and the United States.

On December 15, 2022, 11 youth political party members across four African countries came together in Nairobi, Kenya for a final regional dialogue to present their personal projects accomplished through NDI’s Political Party Leadership Institute (PPLI) program. The regional symposium marked the completion of the 2021 cohort and their transition into the program’s  Alumni Network.
