Gemima Neves Barlow serves as Regional Director for Southern and East Africa at the National Democratic Institute, where she oversees a multi-million dollar portfolio of democracy-strengthening programs across the region. She served as Deputy Regional Director from 2019 to 2024.

Paul Komivi Sémeko Amegakpo is NDI's resident director in Guinea. He was previously NDI's resident program manager in the Central African Republic (CAR). Prior to joining NDI, Paul was a civil society activist in Togo for more than 10 years. From 2012 to 2015, he served as executive director of Togo's Civil Society National Dialogue (Concertation Nationale de Société Civile du Togo), a network of 72 organizations working on democracy and governance.

Richard L. Klein is NDI's Director of Elections Programs. Previously he served for over a decade as a Senior Advisor for Elections at the Institute. Klein is a global leader in promoting electoral integrity with over 30 years of experience building the capacity of local civic and faith-based organizations to observe elections, and organizing international observation missions.

Wael Mickail is the Digital Communication Director at NDI. He is responsible for developing and implementing the Institute's global communication and digital marketing strategies. With over two decades of experience as a media and communications consultant, Mr. Mickail is highly regarded for his expertise in training journalists, political parties, candidates, and civil society organizations to develop strategic communications plans and leverage the power of new media platforms.

From October 2-4, former African heads of state, civil society activists and journalists came together to participate in the Constitutional Term Limits Summit in Niamey, Niger. The Summit focused on existing challenges of democratic consolidation and solutions to ensure the peaceful transfer of executive power across the continent. 

The National Democratic Institute (NDI) expresses its condolences to family, friends, supporters, and the people of Botswana for the passing of Sir Ketumile Masire, former president of Botswana, who died on June 22.

Harare, Zimbabwe – The International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) are fielding a joint delegation from June 2-8 to assess preparations for Zimbabwe’s July 30, 2018, harmonized presidential, parliamentary, and local government elections. This delegation represents an important component of the IRI-NDI joint Zimbabwe International Election Observer Mission (ZIEOM).
