WASHINGTON, D.C. —  The implications for democracy of 30 African elections slated through 2016 will be discussed next week by senior Africa experts during a briefing and roundtable discussion at the National Democratic Institute (NDI).

The event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 2, at 9:30 a.m. at NDI, 455 Massachusetts Ave., NW.  It is cosponsored by NDI and the Constituency for Africa (CFA).

The National Democratic Institute (NDI) welcomes the conclusion of the 2014 presidential electoral process and the political agreement that enables the first democratic transfer of power in Afghanistan’s history. The establishment of the national unity government provides a critical framework for political leaders to work in tandem to address the country’s political, economic and security challenges.

TUNIS, Tunisia – A pre-election assessment mission organized by the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the International Republican Institute (IRI) reported here today that the country appears to be on a decidedly democratic path since the beginning of its political transition in 2011. But to maintain public confidence, it must ensure parliamentary and presidential elections this fall are free of undue partisan interference and manipulation, the delegation said.

KYIV, Ukraine – The National Democratic Institute (NDI) announced the arrival here today of its pre-election assessment mission for the Oct. 26 parliamentary polls.
