National Democratic Institute has published the results of the survey of the ratings of political parties and leaders. According to the research, Minister of Defense Irakli Alasania and the President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili are the most popular government leaders in Georgia with a 72 percent approval rating each, while 61 percent rate the Georgian Dream Coalition as the “party” closest to them.

Outgoing Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili has proposed as his successor the youngest member of the current cabinet, 31-year-old Interior Minister Irakli Garibashvili, describing him as "very practical," "very honest," and "a good manager." Garibashvili for his part has affirmed his commitment to Ivansivhili's aims and principles and vowed to work "for the development of the country."

Voters overwhelmingly elected Giorgi Margvelashvili of the ruling Georgian Dream party to lead the former Soviet republic. But tough issues await the pro-West nation.

TBILISI – Minister of Defense Irakli Alasania and the President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili are the most popular government leaders in Georgia with a 72 percent approval rating each, while 61 percent rate the Georgian Dream Coalition as the “party” closest to them, according to the findings of a public opinion survey released here today by the National Democratic Institute (NDI).

TBILISI – For the first time since the National Democratic Institute (NDI)  began polling in Georgia in 2008, a majority of respondents, 54 percent, say that Georgia is a democracy now. A majority of Georgians, 53 percent, also think their country is headed in the right direction and 73 percent say the government is making changes that matter to them.
