Globally, more women than ever before are taking part in politics. However, with the growth in women’s political engagement, an increased frequency and degree of violent responses have emerged that prevent women from accessing their right to engage in politics and public life fully and equally. Conducting an assessment of violence against women (VAW) in political parties is essential to understand how it affects women’s participation in political life and what measures are needed to combat and eliminate violence.

The National Democratic Institute (NDI) developed a Fundraising Guidebook for political parties and movements in Serbia to ensure privacy, safety, and transparency when raising funds, both for the parties themselves and for potential donors. When a political party is not represented in a local, provincial or national assembly, it receives no financial income from the state, and most parties will limit their political activities as a result.

The COVID-19 pandemic allowed NDI and OSCE Mission to Skopje to reprogram funding and share our direct experience engaging municipal councilors in the preparation of this Handbook for Successful Mediation in the Work of the Municipal Councils. The handbook can serve as a resource for civil society organizations (CSOs), civic engagement experts, the donor community and others who work with subnational commissions for inter-ethnic relations and municipal councilors. To better understand the importance of collaboration to achieve mutually-agreed goals, elected officials may also benefit from the handbook as they work to represent the communities for which they serve.

This publication aims to support state-level institutions in drafting and editing high-quality reports, communications, and publications. This resource provides a list of recommendations and tips on the factors to consider when writing or editing a report, as well as what mistakes to avoid. These guidelines also explain how to write effectively in English-- an essential skill in reporting on the EU accession process.

The purpose of this publication is to provide a set of ideas and strategies for political parties that wish to become formal opposition parties within their country’s respective legislative branch. This guide includes institutionalized rules and traditions on the role of a formal opposition in many countries, and also includes advice from political parties in countries new to democratic governance who have served in the opposition.
