Célestine Ketcha Courtès
Maire du Conseil Municipal de Bangangté, Présidente du Réseau des Femmes Elues Locales
Current Mayor
I will say being the CEO of an urban center is the best mandate that you can have. You are looking at the reality that people on the ground are facing. You bring solutions and you see them in the eyes of people.
Célestine Ketcha Courtès was born on October 13, 1964 in Maroua, Cameroon. After a brilliant academic career, she obtained the Diploma of Higher Studies in Commerce and Economy in 1990. She then went to work as the Sales and Marketing Executive at Cimencam, (subsidiary of Lafarge cements, France).
Since 2000, she has been involved in the private business sector and has been engaged in importing and marketing in Cameroon. She was elected Mayor of the Bangangté Commune in 2007. Her personal involvement with civil society organizations and her consideration of the environment in her social projects earned her the 1st Prize of the 1st National Competition FEICOM of the Best Local Practices of Local Development in February 2012, for its project: Hygiene and Sanitation in the City. On June 26, 2014, the same project elected her for a second UN Award for Excellence in Public Service. She was re-elected in 2013 with 83 percent of the vote for a new term.
I joined this network because it’s a unique one talking about enhancing the capacity of women leaders in cities; this network will reinforce our capacity and our leadership so that we can do more for others.
