Statement of Keith Jennings Before the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs, "Kenya's 2013 Elections: An Effective Assistance Model?"
Keith Jennings, NDI senior associate and regional director for Southern and East Africa programs, testified April 16 before the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organizations. Representative Chris Smith, chairman of the subcommittee, presided over the hearing, "Kenya's 2013 Elections: An Effective Assistance Model?"
Other witnesses included Paul Fagan, regional director for Africa for the International Republican Institute (IRI) and Bill Sweeney, president and chief executive officer of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES).
NDI’s partner, Kenya’s Election Observation Group (ELOG), conducted long-term observation of the election process and deployed 7,000 trained monitors. Its parallel vote tabulation (PVT) independently verified that the official election results were consistent with its statistical projections. These were the first elections since 2007, when post-election violence swept the country.
