Liberia International Election Observation Mission
Overview
The 2017 national elections in Liberia represented a milestone in the history of Liberia as the country witnessed the first peaceful transition of power from one elected president to another. The elections also ushered in a historic level of newly elected representatives to the Liberian House of Representatives.
The National Democratic Institute (NDI), in partnership with the West Africa Election Observers Network (WAEON) and its secretariat, the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), implemented an international election observation program to enhance the integrity of the polls by conducting impartial and continuous monitoring of all phases of the election process. The observation mission provided an unbiased assessment of the 2017 election cycle and demonstrated the ongoing international support for democracy in Liberia. The observation included two pre-election assessment missions, the participation of long-term observers and analysts, and deployments of observers during the two rounds of voting. The international election observation mission took place from February 2017 to January 2018.
