Democracy in Crisis: Why, Where, How to Respond by Dr. Roland Rich, assesses the evolution of threats to democracy in regions across the globe. With a discussion on the nature of these threats and how they evolved, this book outlines how challenges to democratic governance can be overcome through a strong civil society.

Author Dr. Roland Rich, served as the Executive Head of the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) from 2007 to 2014, where he supervised projects implemented by over 600 civil society organizations. Prior to his time at UNDEF, Dr. Rich served as the director of the Centre for Democratic Institutions at the Australian National University (1998 – 2005), and with the Australian Foreign Service, including as Australian Ambassador to Laos, from 1994 to 1997. Dr. Rich is currently a member of the faculty of the Department of Political Science at Rutgers University.
