Message from the President of NDI
Democracy is the path by which people of differing views, identities, interests, and preferences arrive peacefully at an agreed-upon path forward for their shared community. NDI benefits from a global workforce with a rich array of backgrounds, and we work in a diverse set of countries. Many of the societies we work in feature histories of tragic violence resulting from their inability to manage relationships between diverse groups peacefully. Mutual respect, dialogue across differences, and meaningful inclusion are essential to democracy; if we can’t model those virtues within NDI, we can’t successfully train or support others in embracing those virtues. Cultivating and sustaining the welfare of everyone in our NDI community is therefore something we all must do well in order to succeed at our mission.
