WASHINGTON, D.C. — Mexico’s Network of Support for Women Municipal Leaders (REAMM) will receive the 2013 Madeleine K. Albright Grant from the National Democratic Institute (NDI) here on May 29 in recognition of its efforts to further the political participation of women.

Laura Inés López Padilla, president of the board of REAMM, will accept the award on behalf of the group, which has worked on the national, state and local levels in Mexico to ensure funding for programs to train women to assume political leadership positions. López Padilla is an activist with nearly 15 years of experience advocating for the equal participation of women and more inclusive governance at all levels of Mexican politics.

The presentation is on Wednesday, May 29, at a luncheon at 12:30 p.m. at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, 1150 22nd St., NW.

Before the luncheon, at 10:30 a.m., she will participate in a panel discussion on women, democracy and technology with former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, NDI chairman; Stephanie Cutter, former deputy campaign manager for the 2012 Obama campaign and partner at Precision Strategies; Ping Fu, chief strategy officer at 3D Systems; and Shelly Esque, vice president at Intel Corporation. Tina Brown, editor-in-chief of The Daily Beast and Newsweek will moderate.

López Padilla is available for interviews in Spanish where she can discuss REAMM’s successful “2% and More Women in Politics” advocacy campaign to ensure funding for women’s political training at the national level and the group’s current efforts to extend its campaign on the state and local levels using the $25,000 Albright award funds.

The event will stream live at www.ndi.org/live. Follow the discussion at #NDIMKA.
