NDI Chairman Madeleine Albright hosted Georgia’s new prime minister, Irakli Garibashvili, at a small dinner Feb. 24 in Washington, D.C., where he spoke about the future of Georgia, the country’s commitment to democratic reform and the impact of NDI programs.
“This is a future-oriented government, and the country’s democratic and economic growth is very important to us,” Garibashvili said. “NDI has helped Georgia strengthen rule of law and its commitments to democratic reform. [The Institute] is also critical in areas of democratic elections and human rights. NDI’s encouragement and criticism is important for our democratic reform.”
