Global Cyber Alliance and the National Democratic Institute Join Efforts to Boost Election Security

Thursday, October 19, 2023

The Global Cyber Alliance (GCA) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) announced a partnership today to continue promoting their work around the digital safety of elections and other democratic political processes.

As part of this collaboration, GCA and NDI will be working together to bolster the accessibility and usability of NDI’s Cybersecurity Handbook for Civil Society Organizations by including links to all its language versions within the GCA Cybersecurity Toolkit for Mission-Based Organizations.

“Protecting elections and political processes from cyber threats is vital to ensure democratic integrity and is a core element of both NDI and GCA’s efforts to strengthen democracy,” said Moira Whelan, Director of Democracy and Technology at NDI. “This cross-promotional effort underscores our dedication to providing valuable resources in multiple languages, fostering inclusivity, and making essential information readily available to a broader global audience.”

“With its broad experience in international election observation and assisting the electoral integrity efforts of civic groups and political parties, NDI will keep adding value to our collective effort to improve democratic resilience,” said Brian Cute, Chief Operating Officer and Capacity & Resilience Program Director at GCA. “This partnership marks an exciting chapter in our ongoing mission to empower citizens, strengthen election processes, and create a more transparent and engaged global society.”

NDI has demonstrated a strong track record of engagement with civil society and parliaments in the area of threat assessment and identifying unique risks to election processes. With this new agreement, NDI will offer its expertise in facilitating conversations between these groups and GCA in support of the implementation of GCA’s recent Global Elections Security Report

Both organizations first joined efforts in 2021, when the GCA Cybersecurity Toolkit for Mission-Based Organizations was included in NDI's Cybersecurity Handbook for Civil Society Organizations.
