Washington, D.C. - The National Democratic Institute (NDI) is proud to announce that it has been recognized with the Disability Inclusion Award by InterAction. Founded in 1984, InterAction is the largest alliance of international NGOs and partners in the United States.

“We are deeply honored to receive this recognition from InterAction,” said Tamara Cofman Wittes, NDI’s President. “This award underscores NDI’s strong commitment to elevating the voices of people with disabilities and ensuring that their priorities and needs are included in all aspects of political life. We are grateful for our local partners and all they have taught us; this award honors not only NDI, but also their amazing work.”

NDI has partnered with the disability community for more than 25 years to support their political engagement and their access to all the rights, responsibilities and respect of citizenship and participation. Our dual-track approach to disability includes mainstreaming programs, focused on supporting people with disabilities to participate alongside other segments of society to address mutual interests; and targeted programs, which assist people with disabilities in taking action through organized politics to address exclusionary institutions, laws, and processes.

The InterAction Disability Inclusion Award, established in 2009 in collaboration with Mobility International USA, recognizes those who have demonstrated a commitment to ensuring the full inclusion of people with disabilities and who approach disability as an important cross-cutting issue. NDI is thrilled to be recognized for our work through this award.
