Audit of Political Engagement in Albania

NDI's local partner, the Institute for Mediation and Democracy (IDM), conducted an Audit of Political Engagement in Albania, an inaugural public opinion study that explores citizens’ engagement in democratic processes as an indicator of the health of a society. The February 2016 study involved interviews across Albania with 1,538 participants over 18 years of age, as well as four focus groups.

NDI Research: Albanians Want Economic Opportunity and Rule of Law

TIRANA, Albania – Concerns over unemployment, high prices and tax burdens were voiced by Albanians who participated in focus group research conducted by the National Democratic Institute (NDI) last December.

These immediate concerns offset the majority of participants’ assessment that Albania is generally heading in a positive direction.

Kosovo: Overcoming Barriers to Women's Political Participation

From October 7 to 11, 2014 the National Democratic Institute (NDI or the Institute) conducted an assessment of women’s political participation in Kosovo’s 2013 local elections and 2014 parliamentary elections. The assessment drew upon international standards forwomen’s political participation developed by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and NDI’s own global programs on Gender, Women, and Democracy.

Abania Focus Group Report: Dialogue Between Citizens and Politicians Key to Better Governance and a Stronger Economy

Focus group research conducted by the National Democratic Institute (NDI) in December 2013 and released today shows the public mood as negative, shaped by poor economic conditions. Unemployment and corruption top citizen concerns. There is an undercurrent of cautious optimism for reform--if elected leaders reach out to citizens and engage them meaningfully in public policy decisions.
