Sudan | Losing Hope: Citizen Perceptions of Peace and Reconciliation in the Three Areas
This is NDI’s second in-depth study of the Three Areas, which is composed of the states of Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile and the territory of Abyei. Implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) of 2005 is most difficult and peace most precarious in the Three Areas, in part because they lie along the resource-rich North-South border. This research was designed to examine citizen perceptions about progress toward permanent peace since the signing of the CPA.

Report on Voter Registration in the Republic of Yemen
The National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the Yemen Election Monitoring Network (YEMN) conducted a joint observer mission to monitor the voter registration process. The principle objectives of the observation mission were to:

provide an accurate and objective assessment of Yemen’s 2008 voter registration process;

ensure the rights of eligible voters to register or change their voting domicile; and

Transparency and Accountability in the Montenegrin Governance System
NDI has developed a first-of-its-kind analytical framework to assess the level of “good governance” in a country. With funds from the United Nations Development Programme, NDI used the framework for a pilot assessment in Montenegro that measured the degree to which its system of governance is transparent and accountable and how it measures up against the criteria for membership in the European Union.
