Washington, DC – NDI mourns the passing of our dear friend and distinguished Board member, Richard “Dick” Blum, and sends its deepest condolences to his wife Senator Dianne Feinstein and their family.

KYIV, Ukraine – Nearly half of Ukrainians think there are too few women in elected office, according to a poll released today by the National Democratic Institute (NDI). Ukrainians believe women politicians are better equipped than men to deal with many important policy issues, and they want political parties to address barriers to women’s political participation.

KYIV, UKRAINE—By conducting a generally well-run presidential election in the face of significant challenges, Ukrainians achieved a democratic milestone, according to the National Democratic Institute (NDI), which released a preliminary statement today with the findings of its international election observation mission for Sunday’s polls.

On December 22, 2022 at 10:00 in the morning, a steadfast supporter of democracy and devoted friend, sister, mother, and colleague died peacefully from small bowel cancer. She was in good spirits until the end, surrounded by family and messages of love from around the world.

TBILISI – Poll results released today by the National Democratic Institute (NDI or the Institute) and CRRC Georgia show that the Russian invasion of Ukraine has amplified Georgian’s views that Georgia would benefit from a closer relationship with EU and NATO rather than with Russia. Security concerns emanating from Russian aggression have led to a marked increase in public perception that Russia is a threat to its neighbors.

On February 24, 2022, the world watched as Russia launched its full-scale invasion, with the aim of toppling Ukraine’s government and erasing from the map a democratic nation whose very existence Vladimir Putin has denied. More than a year later, Ukraine remains steadfast in the face of unrelenting violence and terror.

Please join us as we celebrate risk-takers for women’s empowerment at the Madeleine K. Albright Luncheon. We will hear from and honor those who have put themselves at great peril to be trailblazers in furthering women’s inclusion in political life, leading to a better life for all. These risk-takers are truly working for democracy and making democracy work.
