The streets were empty as Sierra Leoneans gathered in front of televisions and radios to witness six presidential contenders participate in a three-hour debate, the first in the country’s history to feature all major political parties. In the past, the ruling party has declined to participate or failed to appear on debate night.

Iraqis grew increasingly frustrated with poor service provision and rampant corruption, according to the findings of an NDI national survey conducted from August 12 to September 3, 2015. Citizens’ concerns about the government’s perceived lack of responsiveness to the people’s needs (58 percent saw the issue as worsening) negatively impacted public attitudes about politicians and political entities.

The National Democratic Institute (NDI) is inviting Nigerian qualified Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to submit applications for funding under the Nigeria EECSP program to observe Ondo state November 26, 2016 gubernatorial election using sampling based election observation methodology.

Following a vote of no-confidence against Prime Minister Habib Essid, newly-appointed Prime Minister Youssef Chahed in August 2016 formed a unity government—the country’s seventh since the 2011 revolution. Upon taking office, PM Chahed announced his government’s priorities as fighting corruption and terrorism, promoting economic growth, and balancing the budget.
