On September 8, the Palestinian High Court ordered the suspension of elections in the West Bank and Gaza scheduled for October 8. The elections would have been the first democratic contest in both territories since those for the Palestinian Legislative Council in 2006. The court ruled that the polls cannot take place due to disputes over candidate lists and the inability of elections to be administered in Jerusalem.
Every Wednesday, Calmar Brou, Aliou Bamba and other young leaders arrive at daybreak to help keep the peace on market days in the weekly market in the Ivorian city of Béoumi. Calmar and Aliou are respectively the president (a Baoulé) and vice president (a Malinké) of the municipal youth body, selected by their peers to help coordinate youth activities and promote collaboration among members of their two ethnic groups. Since 2019, the National Democratic Institute (NDI) has partnered with the “Access” (Wusool in Arabic) campaign, a coalition of disabled persons organizations (DPOs) across Libya focused on building support for persons with disabilities (PWDs). The campaign not only works on infrastructure improvements, but also targeted outreach and administrative support at higher education institutions as PWDs pursue their degrees.
