Key participants in Chile’s 1988 plebiscite reflect on their experiences working on the campaign that ousted General Augusto Pinochet and marked the country’s return to democracy. This film capsulizes comments made at a screening of the movie “NO” by Genaro Arriagada, former national director of the “NO” Campaign, former Chilean ambassador to the U.S. and former minister of the presidency of Chile; Sergio Bitar, president of Chile’s Foundation for Democracy, former Chilean senator, cabinet member and president of the Party for Democracy (PPD); political consultant Frank Greer, a partner at GMMB who worked on the No campaign; and NDI President Kenneth Wollack. Arriagada and Bitar discuss their efforts to unify the Chilean opposition and lessons from their struggle that remain important for democrats around the world today.
