BLANTYRE - MESN Observers report that while a significant number of polling stations opened late across the country, particular in southern region as previously reported by MESN, that as of 8:00am at least 85% of polling stations were open and that as of mid-day at least 95% were open.

Of those polling stations reported open by MESN PVT Observers:
- 97% were set up so that voters could mark their ballots in secret (740 of 759);
- 95% were located in a place easily accessible to persons with disabilities (723 of 759;)
- 99% the presidential ballot box was shown to be empty before being closed and sealed (749 of 758);
- 99% had presidential ballot papers (750 of 758);
- 97% had the correct parliamentary ballot papers (735 of 758); and
- 95% had the correct ward councillor ballot papers (721 of 757)
