Harare, Zimbabwe – The International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI), as part of their joint Zimbabwe International Electoral Observation Mission, will deploy 14 long-term observers beginning on June 22, covering all 10 provinces of Zimbabwe in the period leading to the July 30, 2018 elections, on election day and in the post-election period.

On June 14, 2018, NDI President Kenneth Wollack testified before the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. The hearing discussed support for democracy and human rights as an important American value and a core tenant of U.S. foreign policy. The hearing also discussed democratic backsliding and other challenges to the spread and consolidation of democracy.

Harare, Zimbabwe – The International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) are fielding a joint delegation from June 2-8 to assess preparations for Zimbabwe’s July 30, 2018, harmonized presidential, parliamentary, and local government elections. This delegation represents an important component of the IRI-NDI joint Zimbabwe International Election Observer Mission (ZIEOM).

Harare, Zimbabwe – In response to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s public statements welcoming international observers to monitor the upcoming Zimbabwe elections, the International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) are deploying a joint Zimbabwe International Election Observation Mission (ZIEOM) to observe the 2018 Zimbabwe elections.

In March 2018, the Consortium for Elections and Political Process Strengthening (CEPPS) assessed the status of electoral preparations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) ahead of the presidential, legislative, and provincial assembly elections scheduled for December 23, 2018. The goal of the assessment was to suggest potential interventions that the United States Government (USG) and other international actors could support to achieve key benchmarks of credible electoral preparation.
