NDI to Field Team of Long-Term Observers Ahead of Georgia Local Elections

TBILISI – The National Democratic Institute (NDI) announced today the arrival of an international delegation to observe the October 21 local elections in Georgia. The group includes 15 international observers who are political and civic leaders, election experts, and regional specialists. The observation delegation is supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

Burma/Myanmar’s Leading Election Observation Group Helps Others Up Their Game

Following its groundbreaking work in 2015 as the first-ever citizen monitoring group registered in Burma/Myanmar, the People’s Alliance for Credible Elections (PACE) emerged as one of the country’s leading election monitoring organizations. Since then, PACE has continued to play a prominent role in promoting electoral integrity during parliamentary by-elections and municipal polls which further consolidated the country’s democratic transition. Having now mastered its own methodology, PACE has begun to mentor other Myanmar organizations to do the same.

NDI Report on Albania's June 2017 Parliamentary Elections

A partisan boycott threatened Albania’s 2017 parliamentary elections until an internationally brokered agreement paved the way for the opposition’s participation in the vote on June 25. The incumbent Socialist Party (SP) of Prime Minister Edi Rama won a single-party majority, with 74 seats in the 140-seat parliament. The opposition Democratic Party (DP), led by former Tirana mayor Lulzim Basha, suffered a loss in votes, and returns to parliament with 43 seats.

In Large Numbers, Kenyans Cast Votes on Election Day

At 5 AM on August 8, delegates participating in NDI’s international election observation mission (IEOM) to the Kenyan elections were on their way to poll openings in 13 counties across the nation. They were hardly the first to arrive. Already, long lines of voters had formed overnight in many places, patiently waiting to cast their ballot for Kenya’s future. As delegation co-leader Rep. Karen Bass (CA) put it, “The Kenyan people have a lot to be proud of. I’d give anything to have a turnout like that back home.”

NDI Sends International Observer Mission to Kenya’s August 8 General Elections

NAIROBI, KENYA -- The National Democratic Institute (NDI) announced that it will deploy an international election delegation to Kenya to observe the August 8 general elections.
