What the “Year of Elections” Reveals About The World in 2025
In over seventy countries, representing about half of the world’s population, citizens went to the polls this year. While some noted a trend of incumbents losing, NDI saw people-powered democracy triumph on every continent. NDI worked alongside our local citizen partners to play essential roles in many of these electoral hotspots: before, during, and after the polls.
A CEDAW Shadow Reporting Methodology for VAW-P
In 2016, NDI launched the #NotTheCost campaign, a global call to action to stop violence against women in politics (VAW-P). One of the key recommendations made by NDI’s then-Chairman and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright at the launch of the campaign was for the United Nations to begin to examine violence against women in politics in its annual thematic reports.
