Roseline Idele manages NDI’s programs supporting Ugandan efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and advance democratic reforms. Before her temporary post to NDI’s Uganda office in October 2019, Roseline worked as the senior program manager in the NDI Kenya office where she was responsible for program design and implementation of the Institute’s activities focused on enhancing women’s political participation through leadership, mentoring, and training programs.

Dennis Omondi is the country director of NDI’s Kenya office and manages programs supporting Kenyan efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and advance democratic and governance reforms. Before his appointment, Dennis served in various capacities and roles rising through the ranks to a deputy country director in the NDI Kenya office.

Maggie Mitchell Salem is NDI's senior resident director in Tunisia. Maggie has more than 25 years of experience providing assistance to civil society organizations and other groups engaged in civic education; elections; political transitions; and human rights.

The last two decades have seen competitive political parties grow in number and size in African democratic systems. However, political parties on the continent still face significant challenges in providing inclusive opportunities for women and youth. Despite making up a majority of the population, women and young people in political parties continue to face inclusion barriers, and effective inclusion strategies and opportunities remain largely unimplemented.

Kevin Adomayakpor is NDI’s resident director in Burkina Faso. He previously served as NDI’s resident director in Cote d’Ivoire, where he spent 6 years implementing a wide range of programs including election observation, increasing citizen participation, and combatting disinformation. Adomayakpor has over 25 years of experience as a civil society organizer and program director.

In November, representatives from NDI’s civil society partners in Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Sudan came together for a two-day virtual roundtable event addressing their respective advocacy efforts focused on the preservation of civic space.

Freedom of the press is an integral element of democracy. The media plays an important role in informing citizens about current political events, including legislative actions. Lawmakers, in turn, use the media to inform and engage with their constituents. Many citizens rely upon  media outlets to inform their political decisions.

On April 25, 2014, Mr. Martin Luther King, III joined with the United Nations, the African Union (AU), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the European Union, governments and other international organizations, including the National Democratic Institute (NDI), to call for an immediate end to the conflict in South Sudan.

Schulz worked for nearly 15 years with civil society organizations in the Middle East, including with the U.S. Department of State, the National Endowment for Democracy, and the National Democratic Institute, where she was based in the West Bank.
