On December 7, 2020 Ghana will hold presidential and parliamentary elections, the eighth since the start of the Fourth Republic. The International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) offer the following analysis of the pre-election environment based on in-depth interviews conducted October 20–29 with a wide array of representatives from the Electoral Commission (EC), political parties, the security sector, civil society organizations, and citizen observation groups.

Georgia will hold parliamentary elections on October 31, 2020. The National Democratic Institute issued a report assessing the pre-election environment on August 19. This update bulletin is based on analysis conducted by a team of eight international election experts who, paired with assistants based in Georgia, are tracking the work of the electoral administration, campaign environment, gender and inclusion, media and disinformation, and the impact of covid-19.

NDI supports a collaborative group of Tunisian civil society organizations - including the Tunisian Mediterranean Center (TuMed), the Ofiya Coalition for Democracy and Integrity of the Elections, IWatch, Youth Without Borders (JSF), Mourakiboun, and the Chahed Observatory - to monitor the electoral process in Tunisia. In 2019, with technical support from NDI, these organizations monitored the snap presidential and legislative organizations.

In order to demonstrate the international community’s commitment to supporting Tunisia’s continued democratic transition, the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the International Republican Institute (IRI) jointly organized an international mission to observe the 2019 presidential and legislative elections.

The National Democratic Institute (NDI) is deeply concerned by the government of Togo’s expulsion of three NDI employees from the country.  The NDI employees traveled to Togo transparently and in compliance with the country’s immigration laws to provide technical assistance to a local, non-partisan civil society coalition that intended to monitor the February 22 presidential election. Togo’s National Independent Election Commission (CENI) accredited the group’s election observation mission in January.
